The author of the “Outlander” books claims she was not approached by the spin-off production

Writer Diana Gabaldon, author of the books that inspired the “Outlander” series, revealed that she had not been contacted to talk about the attraction’s just-announced spin-off.

Called “Outlander: Blood of My Blood”, the new series will be a prologue focusing on the love story between Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, who are the parents of character Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

The announcement of the paid channel Starz indicates that the prologue will be written by Matthew B. Roberts, who will also serve as producer and showrunner of the attraction, thus repeating his role in the main series.

The production team also includes Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore, creators of the adaptation of “Outlander”. And Gabaldon is supposedly the creative consultant of the production.

“Well … that’s interesting … Note that I have no idea what a ‘consultant producer’ is, and no one told me about it,” Gabaldon wrote on his official Facebook account on Friday (8/5). “That doesn’t mean I won’t be involved in the show, but I don’t have any details at the moment.”

Interestingly, he is writing an “Outlander” prologue with the same premise as the announced series.

“Yes, I’m writing the story of Brian and Ellen. I have no idea what the timing of the series will be, or to what extent the showrunners intend to use the book (as long as it exists at this point). It’s the same as having the all clear, it just means they’re starting to put the pieces together. I’m just mentioning it here because Starz announced it today on Twitter and Facebook, so I thought everyone would want to know. “

The idea of exploring the universe of “Outlander” is not surprising, given that the series is one of the biggest hits of the American pay channel Starz, but its story is already nearing the end.

The 6th season was shown at the beginning of the year and the 7th is already in production, leaving only the 8th not yet officially confirmed, which should conclude the plot with the adaptation of the last remaining book of the literary collection. “The Time Traveler”, by Diana Gabaldon.

The “Outlander” series is available in streaming in Brazil on the Star + platform.
