Liverpool retires 20 in honor of Diogo Jota

The Portuguese player died on Thursday 3, after being the victim of an accident in Spain

Liverpool has announced on their social networks on Friday 11, which will retire 20. The decision was made as a way to honor and eternalize the passage of Diogo Jota through Reds. The Portuguese player died last week in a car accident.

The striker died on Thursday 3, after a car accident on a road in Spain. The vehicle he was with his brother was thrown out of the track and caught fire. Both died before the arrival of the help.

“Change is not only a recognition of the incommensure contribution that our boyfriend from Portugal has made to the success of the Reds on the field in the last five years, but also the profound personal impact he has had on his teammates, colleagues and fans and the lasting connections he built with them,” says the declaration.

The retirement of the number of the shirt extends to all the club categories, both males and females, explained the Reds.

“I think this is the first time in the history of the Liverpool football club that such an honor is granted to an individual. Therefore, we can say that this is a unique tribute to an exceptionally wonderful person,” said Michael Edwards, team CEO of the team.

“The fact that in the long and historical history of our club this honor has never been granted first the importance of Diogo for Liverpool,” concluded Billy Hogan, John Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon.
