European leaders spoke on Saturday 12, of the tariff threat of the United States on imports from European Union (EU), expressing support in the search for a commercial agreement. Previously, the President of the United States, Donald Trumphe announced that he intends 30% taxation to resolve “long -term commercial deficits”.
The president of Spain Pedro Sánchez declared in X that “economic opening and trade creates prosperity. Unjustified rates destroy it”.
He also declared that the country supports the European Commission in negotiations to reach an agreement before 1 August. “United, the Europeans are the largest commercial block in the world. We use this strength to reach a fair agreement,” he said.
In turn, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, expressed support for the European Commission in the search for a mutually advantageous result. “The US advertising of 30% rates on the products imported from the European Union is worrying and it is not the way of following,” he said.
The Italian government reported in a declaration that continues to monitor the negotiations, supporting the commission. “We trust that the goodwill of all interested parties reaches a fair agreement capable of strengthening the West as a whole, since – in particular in the current scenario – it would not make sense to trigger a commercial war between the two parts of the Atlantic,” he said.
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union will continue to negotiate with the United States for a commercial agreement.
“We are still ready to continue working for an agreement until 1 August. At the same time, we will take all the necessary measures to safeguard the EU’s interests, including the adoption of proportional, if necessary contracts,” he said in a note
