Russia records five strong earthquakes, but excludes the risk of tsunami after issuing a notice

The tremors, the largest of magnitude 7.4, were recorded in the ocean; There are no reports of victims

Russia recorded five strong earthquakes – the largest of them with a size of 7.4 – after the country’s emergency body has issued a warning of tsunami. The Pacific Tsunami Alert Center says that there is no more danger of tsunami waves on the Kamchatka peninsula.

The largest earthquake occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers and 144 kilometers east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamcatsky, which has a population of 180,000, according to the United States geological service.

Smaller tremors – but still substantial – were recorded before and after. Initially, the Russian organ said that there was the danger of great waves of tsunami, but then he relegated his warning before he finally said that the danger had passed.

The Russian emergency ministry even asked the residents of the coastal settlements to move away from the coast. There were no reports of victims or damage and the ministry said he had no immediate plans to evacuate the region. On November 4, 1952, an earthquake of magnitude 9.0 in Kamchatka caused damage, but there were no reports of the dead, despite having caused waves of 9.1 meters to Hawaii.

The Geophysical Service of the United States (USGS) also issued a warning of tsunami at the Kamchatka peninsula, located in the eastern far of Russia, after two earthquakes, one of magnitude 6.7 and the second 7.4, reaching the region on Sunday, 20. The large waves are scheduled for the backs of the Hawaii, the islands of Japan and the Midway (US).

The Kamchatka peninsula is the meeting point of the busty plaques of Pacific and North America, which makes the region one of the most active seismic areas on the planet.

Since 1900, seven serious earthquakes have already occurred in the region equal to or greater than 8.3./With AP and AFP
