The number of Brazilians with Pay TV has been the smallest since 2016

The National Continuous Household Sample Survey (PNAD), published Thursday (24) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reveals a change in the behavior of the Brazilians. More and more people are replacing pay TV with streaming.

The survey, made in the last quarter of 2024, identified the smallest number of families with a paid television service since the start of the survey in 2016. During this period, the number of users dropped from 22.2 million to 18.3 million.

According to the survey, 58.4% of Brazilians said they had less interest in pay TV. In 2016 this number was 39.1%. On the other hand, 31% said they had considered the price too high, against 56% previously. These data indicate a change in the behavior of the population.

This lack of interest can be explained by the creation of new ways to consume internet content. In this scenario, it is easy to understand the increase in the number of customers who watch movies and series through the various streaming services existing today.

According to Ibge, through streaming, the subscriber has access to an offer of films, series, projects for children, journalistic programs and sporting events, for example. With the exception of live times, attractions are on request, that is, they are available to be seen at any time. The information comes from Brazilian agency.
