The programs that bring together the differentiated profile of the candidates and focus on the application of knowledge to resolve the real challenges
The opportunity to align the study with a practical action in the work area of work motivates the search for teachers and professional doctorates. Unlike academics who are addressed to those who want to pursue a career in research or university teaching, professional programs focus on the application of knowledge to resolve real challenges in the field of work, allowing to increase their career by deepening their knowledge in their area of competence.
“The professional program has an entire structure of the formulation of academic research. But the big differential is in the flow, finally, the candidate, his work area, his professional experience and the generation of a product”, says Leandro Great, coordinator of the degree program in the environment, health and sustainability (Proasas) of the public health faculty of the University of São Paulo (FSP-USP).
In 2012, the University launched the announcement for the main Proasas Professional course, starting from the first class in 2013. The announcement of the first professional doctoral course of the institution was presented by the same program in 2023, with the course starting from 2024.
In both courses, the development of a technical and technological product (PTT) is an obligation. He underlines the professional’s ability to transform theoretical knowledge into innovative solutions in the labor market and in society.
“Let’s start with this problem that the professional has in the field of work and makes an academic study to develop a product that has a wide range of possibilities, connecting the academic study to professional practice. For us it is practically mandatory that the student delivered at the end of the course a thesis, in the case of the Master or a doctoral thesis containing the PTT”, says the coordinator of the program.
In the context of the professional doctorate, studies should be deeper and more robust, accompanied by innovative methodological applications for the creation of products. This mode of the course Stricho Sensu It is particularly suitable for professionals who occupy leadership positions or who are in a career progression path.
It is also important to see the professional doctoral student as a person able to guide an important axis of debate. Another important point is that it has a greater vision for the transformation in the search for sustainability, with deeper and more systemic changes.
