Based on Don Roff’s book “Clare at 16”, the film will follow a Catholic college student (played by Thorne) with a divine call to kill.
Phillippe will play the police officer charged with investigating the protagonist’s crimes.
The cast also includes Rebecca De Mornay (“Lucifer”), Frank Whaley (“Luke Cage”), Bart Johnson (“High School Musical”) and Dylan Flashner (“The Card Counter”).
The screenplay for the adaptation was by Guinevere Turner (“Pact of Vengeance”) and director Mitzi Peirone (“A Wicked Game”), who will also direct the film.
“Saint Clare” will be released in theaters in 2023, but a release date has not yet been set.
Bella Thorne has several projects underway, including “The Trainer”, a new film from director Tony Kaye (“The Other American Story”), and the sci-fi “The Uncanny”, which will also be directed by Mitzi Peirone.
Among Ryan Phillippe’s upcoming projects are the true story “American Murderer”, the thriller “The Locksmith” about a former prisoner trying to re-establish himself in society, and the mountaineering drama “Summit Fever”, all no date of the first.
