Brasilia, 01 August – President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva collected members of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the authorities of the Dawn Palace, Thursday evening (31), during a solidarity dinner to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the goal of the US sanctions based on Magnitsky’s law.
The meeting was reserved, but was interpreted as an institutional response to the penalties of the government of Donald Trump, who accuses Moraes of violation of civil freedoms in the trial against former president Jair Bolsonaro for an attempt called coup.
The Petista government also analyzes the possibility of hiring lawyers in the United States to defend Moraes.
Already the minister has shown that he is calm and has made comments that should not change his position in the process, according to sources that participated in the meeting and reported the backstage to the Brazilian press.
Minister Gilmar Mendes, Decano of the Stf, warned that Friday (1st) will hold a speech in support of Moraes, during the session that marks the official recovery of the supreme activities after the withdrawal of the judiciary.
The meeting was attended by other Stf ministers, such as President Luís Roberto Barroso, as well as the Prosecutor General, Paulo Gonet and the Prosecutor General of the Union Jorge Messias. .
