Netflix has released the poster and trailer for “The Punishers” (Do Revenge), a teen comedy in which Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) and Camila Mendes (“Riverdale”) team up for revenge.
The film follows the unexpected union between the most popular ex-girlfriend from a private school and a lesbian student to face the one who humiliated them. The strategy is to join forces to finish off each other’s enemies. For this, they swap targets, aiming to catch them off guard.
The plot is basically a teenage version of the classic “Sinister Pact”, an adaptation of a 1951 Patricia Highsmith novel directed by Alfred Hitchcock, this time with the scariest protagonists of all: teenagers. But without the deaths and tension, which leave room for a rather acid humor. By the way, the only alleged reference in the trailer is “Fatal Attraction” (1987), as a joke.
Packed with teen stars, the cast also includes Jonathan Daviss (“Outer Banks”), Alisha Boe (“13 Reasons Why”), Rish Shah (“Ms. Marvel”), Maia Refico (“Pretty Little Liars: A New Sin” ), Austin Abrams (“Euphoria”) and Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”).
Written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, one of the writers of “Thor: Love and Thunder”, who made her directorial debut last year with another teen comedy, “Somebody Special” (2019), also distributed by Netflix.
The premiere will take place on September 16th.
