According to the man behind films like Sixth (1999), Closed body (2000) and Fragmented (2016), his great inspiration was Spike Lee. Without him, Shyamalan says that he would probably be dedicated to medicine today, his parents’ profession.

According to M. Night Shyamalan, whose most recent works were Trap (2024) and Knock on the door (2023), Spike Lee eventually became a personal friend. He stated:
“He has supported me a lot and has gone to my premieres.”
