Rio Grande do Sul took, this Thursday (7), an unprecedented step in the history of the Brazilian railway infrastructure. In a ceremony in Piratini Palace, the authorization was signed for the Sultrens implant company and manages, in a totally private way, a passenger railway that connects Porto Alegre to Gramado. The planned investment is $ 4.5 billion, without the use of public resources, with a subsidy valid for 99 years – the first of this type granted by a Brazilian state.

The project includes 83 kilometers of tracks, cutting 19 municipalities and directly hitting three others. The route will include 27 crosses with highways, 15 bridges and viaducts, one of the Br-290-like and nine tunnels. The final station will be on the border between Gramado and Cinnamon. The trip should last just over an hour, with trains up to 250 seats, also able to transport loads.

The commercial operation is designed to start in 2032, if the licenses are completed by 2029. The government estimate is that the railway generates over 22,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction and operational phase.
