The Italian government has decreed a state of national mobilization
A large fire came from last Friday (9) The Vesuvius National Park, in the south of Italy, and led the national government to decree a state of national mobilization.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Civil Defense of Italy, Nello Musumeci, who ranked the measure if necessary after the widespread fire that hit the site.
“With the signature of the decree, we are training our National Department to guarantee the coordination of the intervention of the National Civil Defense Service in support of the regional authorities, with the aim of contributing to the fight against extreme events, including the assistance of the staff and resources of other regions,” he said.
The flames, fed by the wind and high temperatures, are spreading on the slopes of Mount Somma, in particular in the municipalities of Terzigno, Ottaviano, San Giuseppe Vesuviano and Boscotrecase, reaching an altitude of 1,050 meters.
According to the authorities, the fire is also coming to the Tyone-Alto Vesuvio Forest Reserve, a protected area that is part of the National Park. Overall, almost three kilometers of vegetation have already been burned. The access of visitors to the Volcano Gran Cino was suspended.
In an attempt to turn off the fire, 150 soldiers are currently on the ground, including the firefighters and 11 planes, including four regional helicopters and one of the national fleet and six Canadairs.
The civil defense of the Campânia region asked for the sending of military personnel to check the situation, in particular to protect the roads and facilitate the traffic of the fire trucks from the firefighters.
The Minister of the Environment and Energy Safety, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, is in constant contact with the president of the Authority of Vesuvius National Park, Raffaele De Luca, to closely monitor the consequences of the fires and extinction operations.
“My sincere thanks to civil defense, to the firefighters and all those who, in these times, work tirelessly to protect people and the environment,” he wrote on Instagram. .
