Hackers steal hotel passports and put on sale in Italy

Thousands of documents are available on Dark Web

Thousands of identity documents have been hacked in Italian hotels and put on sale in a clandestine forum on Dark Web by the Cybercriminale group “Mydocs”, said the Corriere del Veneto newspaper, citing the Italian authorities on Tuesday (12).

According to the Digital Italy Agency (Agid), the illegal activity involved thousands of high resolution scans, identity wallets and other identification documents used by guests during check-in.

The operations started last June, but last weekend, the Hacker group published new publications offering over 70,000 documents stolen from four different hotels for sale.

The report also states that among the factories concerned there is the Hotel Ca ‘dei Conti, in Venice, where 38,000 images were illegally stolen in July.

Other theft of data would have occurred in the “Casa Dorita” hotel in Milano Marittima (2,300 documents); to Queen Isabella Hotel, on the island of Ischia (30 thousand); and on the continent of the hotel, in Trieste (17 thousand). Among the victims there is also a five -star hotel on the Balear islands, The Hills Boutique Majorca, Spain.

The Agid report dates back to August 6 and states that the documents would be stolen between June and July 2025. However, the declaration was updated on 8 and 11 August, because hackers published images of another 17,000 online pixhelated documents, offering them for sale at prices ranging from 800 euros to 10,000 euros.

Daniele Minotto, deputy director of the Venice Hotel Association (Ava), clarified that “hoteliers do not have the legal authorization to store files containing guest documents, but hackers only have to access the scanner to send papers or identity passports”.

Already Salvatore Pisani of Confindustria Turismo Venice, said he did not have “knowledge of any mass attacks”: “This attack probably involves small factories that are not properly protected. Our association has activated alliances and training courses to prevent these events”, he concluded.
