Conan Barbarossa: Go behind the scenes of the famous deleted scene from the movie

Just 40 years ago, “Conan Barbarossa” came out; A film that introduced the heroic fantasy to the general public. In 2013, we met Max von Seedou, nicknamed King Osrik, who told us behind the scenes of the famous erased scene.

Just 40 years ago (already …), on April 7, 1982, the legendary John Milius Conan Barbarossa appeared on our screens. Let’s not cut corners: this is a film that made Heroic Fantasy known to the general public (and even, if we want to be more specific, the Sword & Sorcery subgenre). And what a movie! Forty years later, the observation is the same again: Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have been born to embody the man who one day, “He will reign with his own hands”.

No one except John Milius was able to capture Robert E. with such sharpness. The essence and soul of the character world created by Howard, even if the filmmaker projected a very personal vision of Superman myth on our beloved Arnis.

Overcoming the 2011 charity version, Milius’s masterpiece includes everything: world violence and cruelty; Quality of interpretation, starting with the absolutely brilliant James Earl Jones; The mythical soundtrack of Basil Poledur, which gives it one of the most fabulous films in particular; Fantastic sense of rhythm and epic … in short, wonders.

In 2013 we had the honor of having a great interview with the huge actor Max von Seedow. With a career spanning more than 60 years and more than 160 hours in roles, Max von Sydow himself has become part of the 7th Art History. A favorite actor of the legendary Ingmar Bergman, he toured with the greatest: John Houston, Ridley Scott, Sydney Pollack, Martin Scorsese, Spielberg, William Friedkin … and John Milius. In Conan the BarbarianHe encamped for the glorious King Osrik, whom Conan comes to meet.

He told us a delicious anecdote about his character; In this case behind the scenes, which is finally cut out during installation because it did not work technically.

“King Osrik, a very funny character, even if he has a small role. I’m obviously referring to the scene where Conan comes with him, with his two accomplices, thinking that something bad will happen to them when, in fact, I greet them with open arms!

I do not know why John Milius cut my scene where I am being killed. Milius was very fond of weapons, especially swords. In this scene, my bodyguards are killing me, and Milius did not want me to just cut him, but to hit him, even if he cut me in the middle! ” He told us.

“So they made fake bags of blood all over my body. The problem was that it did not work, the hemoglobin cannons were very weak. So I had to iron a new costume with new blood bags and the scene is the opposite. Same problem as before!

We do not know how much it takes, we change costumes every time. And there, we literally had fountains of blood left like a geyser. So we went from “too little” to “too much”, totally unreliable. We could not find a happy means; I think that’s why there is no scene in the cinemas shown in the editing. “
