The Russian leader said that the end of the war will have “only bases”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday (16) that the meeting in Alaska with his US counterpart, Donald Trump was “appropriate and very useful”.
In a meeting with the main leaders of the country, the head of the Kremlin stressed that the conversation with the American leader in Anchorage left Moscow “closer to the necessary decisions” to end the war in Ukraine.
“I would like to immediately emphasize that the visit was timely and very useful,” said Putin, adding that he and Trump discussed “practically all cooperation topics”.
“But of course, first, we talked about a possible resolution of the Ukrainian crisis on the right bases,” he said.
According to the American Press, the Russian president excluded during the meeting with Trump the hypothesis of a ceased temporary fire and indicated that he intends to work on a “global agreement” that places a definitive end to war.
Putin’s requests include the complete withdrawal of the Ukrainian forces of Donbass, the region of the Basin of the Donets river, which includes the provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk and freezes the situation in the provinces of Kherson and Zaporizehzia, partially controlled by Moscow.
In return, Russia would not have tried to conquer new territories in Ukraine. In addition, the head of the Kremlin wants the Russian to be recognized as one of the official languages of Ukraine and has requested security guarantees for the Orthodox churches linked to the Moscow patriarchate. .
