Amazon has released the international poster and subtitled trailer for “Catherine Called Birdy”, a medieval comedy written and directed by “Girls” creator Lena Dunham.
The attraction revolves around the title character, played by Bella Ramsey (the brave Lyanna Mormont of “Game of Thrones”), a young aristocrat who refuses to accept the conventions of her time, including marrying an older man chosen by her father and act like a girl.
The plot takes place in 1290, when the Rollo family pin all their hopes on the young Lady Catherine, known as Birdy. Bankrupt and hopeless for the future, Sir Rollo believes his youngest daughter’s dowry will be her way out, in a marriage to a wealthy suitor. But Birdy wants a lot more from her life and that results in a lot of problems between her and her parents.
Andrew Scott (Fleabag’s priest) plays Sir Rollo and the cast also includes Billie Piper (“Doctor Who”), Joe Alwyn (“The Last Love Letter”), Dean-Charles Chapman (also from “Game of Thrones”) . “) and Ralph Ineson (” The Witch “).
Adapted from Karen Cushman’s novel of the same name, the medieval feminism of “Catherine Called Birdy” will be screened in first person at the Toronto Film Festival, before debuting on Prime Video on October 7.
