‘The Boys’ and their Marvel counterparts: meet the superhero who inspired Homelander

The ending of ‘The Boys’ 3 left some doubts, like what will happen to Ryan and Homelander. Although the leader of the Seven seems like a unique character, he actually has many characteristics of other great heroes from comics and movies.

Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the creators of the comic “The Boys”, wanted to make a story that imitates the most popular characters of Marvel and DC, so the similarity of the protagonists of the Amazon series with the heroes of the MCU is completely understandable .

Here are the superheroes from ‘The Boys’ and their counterparts from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Homeland

In ‘The Boys’, the ultimate superhero is the Homelander, since in addition to enormous strength, he also has the ability to fly, invulnerability and can shoot lasers from his eyes.

In the Marvel comics there are several candidates for the Homelander counterpart, such as Hyperion or the Sentry, but in the MCU the closest thing to the leader of The Seven is Ikaris.

In ‘Eternals’, Ikaris is the strongest of all his brothers, since like Homelander he is very strong physically, he can fly and attack with heat vision at the same time.

Unlike the character from ‘The Boys’, Ikaris is not that disturbed. Although his actions were not right, he felt enough remorse to fly to the Sun as a form of self-punishment, something Ryan’s father could never do.

Queen Maeve

At first glance, you might think that Queen Maeve is inspired by Wonder Woman, but in Marvel there are also heroines very similar to the second most important member of The Seven.

In the comics we have Zarda, the Marvel version of Wonder Woman who is even a member of some sort of evil Justice League. For her part, in the movies we have Valkyrie and Lady Sif, Asgardian warriors and friends of Thor.

Unlike Homelander, Queen Maeve had the soul of a hero but was corrupted by money and excess. At the end of the recent season he managed to get back on track.

A train

Hughie’s girlfriend’s killer is believed to be inspired by The Flash, but The Seven’s runner is no match for the speed of the “red bolt”. In fact, A-Train’s counterpart would be a well-known character in the MCU and Marvel movies: Quicksilver.

Wanda Maximoff’s brother is very fast, but not so fast that he can break the barrier of time and space like the Justice League member can.

Chemical

The only woman on Butcher’s team is also the most powerful, as she is the only one with powers, or at least she was until last season of ‘The Boys’.

When she’s calm, Kimiko is a cheerful and a little shy girl, but when she gets angry she transforms into a killing machine. While he doesn’t have diamond claws, the rest of his abilities are reminiscent of Wolverine or X-23.

Unlike those two heroes, Kimiko doesn’t have a healing factor that makes her practically immortal, so she has to be very careful when dealing with powerful enemies like Stormfront.

Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy’s resemblance to Captain America is almost complete, as both are superheroes from the past who could wake up in the present. The two use a shield as their primary weapon and are guided by the patriotic values ​​of the United States.

Or at least that’s what Soldier Boy is supposed to be guiding, but he’s actually a selfish, racist and evil man, who doesn’t hesitate to try to kill his own son in “The Boys” season three.

Storm front

In the second season of “The Boys,” fans were introduced to Stormfront, a Vought heroine who seemed completely opposed to the Homelander, but ended up becoming his lover.

His powers consist of flight and the ability to manipulate lightning. While these abilities make her very powerful, they fall short compared to her MCU counterpart: Thor Odinsson.

Not only can Thor attack with more powerful bolts, but he also possesses super strength and high durability, which would be useful for Stormfront to survive Ryan’s outburst of rage.
