Murilo is sincere after the classification of Palmeiras in Libertadores: “Smart Game …”

With the large advantage built in the first stage, Palmeiras entered the field on Thursday (21 August), in Allianz Parque, with the aim of confirming their classification for the quarterfinals of Libertadores. The tie without networks against the University, despite the modest performances, ensured the place for the team led by Abel Ferreira.

Previously, the summer had won the clash in Peru 4-0. Therefore, even with discreet performances in front of their fans, the San Paolo team has not been threatened. The opponent even tried to push sometimes, but stopped in the safe interventions of Weverton and a solid defense for 90 minutes.

Murilo, a prisoner in Defense Alviverde, has returned to act after undergoing a period of inactivity due to injuries. The defender even had a good presence in an offensive air ball during the first half, one of the few to bring some danger to the rival goal. In evaluating the team’s performance, he recognized the initial oscillation.

“I think we didn’t start as we wanted, we had planned about 15 very intense minutes and it did not happen. I think we made an intelligent game without exposing each other, thanks to Weverton who made a great rescue and without doubt our team was consistent.”

The defensive system has been tested again with a formation that alternates between three and four defenders during the game, something that has already become routine under Abel’s command. Murilo also commented this adaptation.

“We are used to it, the teacher always varies. We made a good performance without taking a goal, which is what we are looking for.”

In the first half, Palmeiras had punctual possibilities. Vitor Roque forced a good defense of Britos and, in rebound, Flaco López sent. Even before the break, Allan hit the crossbar after the Mauricio cross. Already in the final phase, the Peruvians tried to press with Vélez and Churín, but Weverton kept the zero score.

Allan and Emiliano Martínez were highlighted in midfield with strong marking performances, while the duo attacker made up of Flaco López and Vitor Roque have performed canceled. Abel Ferreira, in turn, opted for an initial formation, but the team had a protocol presentation and no brightness.

Now, Palmeiras will return to the field on Monday (25 August), at 19h (Brasilia time), when they find sports for the Brazilian championship. For Libertadores, the opponent on Wednesday will be River Plate, with the decisive game also in Allianz Parque.
