The festival will have 22 titles in total and will be divided into two parts. The first hits theaters on September 18 and features 14 films that marked generations, with deep, exciting and visually enchanting stories. This is a unique chance of experiencing great world animation classics on the big screen, with all the beauty and depth that only cinema can provide.

Among the titles selected for part 1 of the show are works that defined the studio’s identity and became world references in the animation. Chihiro’s trip (2001), Oscar winner for Best Animation and International Success, tells the young Chihiro’s journey for a magical world full of gods, spirits and challenges that reflect personal growth. Directed by the master Hayao Miyazakithe film was recently selected as the 9th best twentieth century movie by the New York Times. Already My friend Totoro (1988) presents sisters Satsuki and MEI and their friendship with the spirit of the Totoro Forest, in a celebration of childhood and nature that became a symbol of the producer.

The Animated Castle (2004) involves the audience in a romantic fantasy where a cursed young woman finds refuge in the walking castle of an eccentric magician, in a work that combines imagination and criticism of war. The schedule also includes Ponyo: A friendship that came from the sea (2008), inspired by the little mermaid’s tale that mixes magic, childhood and ecology, and Kiki’s delivery service (1989), a delicate portrait of the maturity of a young witch in search of independence. The adventurer Porco Rosso: The Last Romantic Hero (1992) leads the viewer to Italy between wars, where a pork -looking cursed pilot lives aerial adventures loaded with lyricism. Another acclaimed title is Lives in the Wind (2013), inspired by the life of engineer Jirô Horikoshi, who reflects on dreams, love and sacrifices amid Japan.

The studio’s environmental concerns appear early, as in VALE DO VALE NAUSICA (1984), a visionary work that influenced the founding of Ghibli and narrates the struggle of a princess for the harmony between humanity and nature. Youth novel also has space in Heart whispers (1995), who accompanies student Shizuku in a history of maturity and self -discovery. Already Pom Poko: The Great Battle of the Rwiquinins (1994) brings an ecological satire, while My neighbors, the yamadas (1999) entertains with its stylized trait and humorous portrait of Japanese family life.

With a more mature and intimate look, Yesterday’s Memories (1991) alternates and passed to reflect on childhood and adult choices. Originally produced for TV, I can hear the ocean (1993) brings a realistic view of youth, friendship and first loves. And ending the selection of the first part, From hill kokuriko (2011) presents a novel set in Japan from the 1960s, where a group of students struggles to preserve their school amid the postwar social transformations.
