In the plot, the characters Tim and Millie form a couple of crises, but with a very large emotional addiction on each other. Everything changes to the couple when Tim and Millie make a path in a cave near their new residence. At the time, Tim decides to drink water from an underground well. So strange things begin to happen, because the day after the couple he wakes up with his legs blocked.
At the beginning, they believe that this can be normal. However, this physical connection becomes increasingly big after his intimate encounters. The peak happens when they are arrested sexually. In search of answers, the two learn, through Mr. McCabe, a neighbor and a worker from Millie, that the cave was previously used by a mystical spiritual community.
So this physical connection of the couple is happening because of the supernatural forces. However, things begin to become even more terrifying when Tim discovers that another couple, Simon and Keri, who visited the same cave, have disappeared. In an even larger climbing of terror, Tim finds them partially thrown into a bizarre creature.
While Tim deepens his investigation on what could happen, Millie tries to get more information from McCabe, who seems to hide the truth.
Then it invades the neighbor’s house and finds a wedding ribbon, but which is actually a real horror ritual, showing two men who merge and become a creature. The scene shows that McCabe is the result of this union.
McCabe is a defender of this type of merger, because he believes that it is a complete way of realization, in which individuals cease to exist alone and become a single creature. Following the narrative, he tries to convince Millie to unite completely with Tim, but she refuses and is wounded.
So meet Tim and says everything he discovered. The two come to the consent that there is no way to fight the merger, since they can end like Simon and Keri. Now they have to accept the inevitable.
In the end, Tim begins the merger by joining his arm on Millie’s wound while the two dance by listening to the song “2 becomes 1” from Spice Girls, responsible for giving a tone of romanticism and also bringing the message of loss of individuality on the scene.
Closing the plot, next weekend of the merger, Millie’s parents will visit it, but they are surprised to face a androgynous figure, who was the result of her merger with her husband.
The film brings two interpretations, one of a couple who crossed moments of crisis, has overcome and become inseparable. The other can be a criticism of emotional dependence on relationships, which is responsible for the end of individuality.
