Kiev confirms Russian advancement in the new Ukrainian region

The military spokesman recognizes Russian troops in Dnipropetrovsk, who is not one of the five regions claimed by Moscow as a Russian territory. Ukraine recognized Tuesday (26/08) that Russian troops entered the Dnipropetrovsk region (Centrost), an administrative area previously spared intense combat and in which Russia had already claimed progress in July.

The spokesman for the Ukrainian army for the Region, Viktor Tregoubov, confirmed the entry of the Russian troops to Dnipropetrovsk and added that the fighting are taking place, in declarations at the French press agency AFP. Until then the Ukrainian government had denied any Russian progress in Dnipropetrovsk.ucraniaaate

Russia had announced in July that its forces had advanced in the region, which is not one of the five that the Kremlin claims to be a Russian territory. Since then, he said he caught some villages in the region.

The DNIPRO group of the Ukrainian army, responsible for this combat area, said he had “conducted the Russian invaders” shortly after entering the Dniproproperovsk region by Donetsk.

The Ukrainian army rejected the accusations of Russia of Totally captured the villages of Zaporizke and Novogeorgiivka. However, the Deepstate military cartography website, which is close to the Ukrainian military, said Tuesday that Russia had occupied them.

The Dnipropetrovsk region, which has a border with the regions of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporijia, all claimed by Russia, is often the target of Russian attacks with drones or missiles.

Stagnated peace efforts

Russian forces are slowly but constantly gaining land in expensive battles from areas widely devastated in east and southern Ukraine, usually with few inhabitants or intact buildings.

Dnipropetrovsk is not one of the five Ukrainian regions (Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk, ZaporĂjia and Crimea) that the Kremlin said he was a Russian territory.

The admission of Ukraine to have lost the ground for the first time in the region occurs at a time when diplomatic efforts to a possible peace agreement are stagnant.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and today occupies about 20% of the Ukrainian territory, has intensified operations in the eastern country in recent months.

After the invasion, Russia declared the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, ZaporĂjia and Kherson, after having invaded and attached to Crimea in 2014. The international community does not recognize the legitimacy of the annexes.

Russian progress takes place at a time when the President of the United States Donald Trump, who wants to end the war as soon as possible, announced the plans for a meeting between the Russian presidents Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian, Volodimir Zelenski.

However, the Kremlin excluded the possibility of an immediate meeting between the two leaders and requires Ukraine to retire from some territories that still partially control as a previous condition for the end of hostilities.
