The idea is to prepare the generation so that it is able to reconcile innovation and social and environmental responsibility
SPECIAL FOR ESTADãO – Behind the climatic objectives and market pressures, a network of programs that bet on the formation of ESG leaders as a tool for social transformation is growing in Brazil. The proposal goes beyond training professionals to occupy strategic positions: it is a question of preparing a new generation of change agents, able to reconcile innovation, social and environmental responsibility and economic development, directly influencing communities, companies and public policies.
One of these projects is Raízes Do Future, of the Einstein Israelita hospital, which serves young people from the community of Paraisópolis, in the south of San Paolo. “In Practice, Training Young Climate Leaders Means Empowering Students to Be Protagonist of Transformation: Capable of Understanding The Environmental Challenges That affecto Their Health and Community, proposing innovative Solutions and Mobilizing People Around Social and Environmental Causes. It is to prepa Not Only Undersands The Problems, But Also Has Tools To Acts in A concrete and Sustainable Way, “Says the Superintendent of Sustainability of the Sustainability of Einstein, Priscella Surita.
The ex -GE agenda, often seen only as a company, gains a concrete meaning applied to students’ life in the roots.
According to Priscila, the program is divided into three parts: environmental, with waste management practices, consumption of water and conscious energy and reduction of the climatic impact; Social, with debates on inequality, health and quality of life, which show how climate change expand vulnerability in the communities such as Paraisópolis; Governance, with encouragement to teamwork, the construction of collective solutions and the structured presentation of projects, with a vision of impact and responsibility.
To priscila, one of the challenges is to translate scientific concepts into experiences that make sense in everyday life. Terms such as “global warming” or “greenhouse gas” may seem abstract, but when it is shown that bus smoke aggravates breathing problems, that the heat inside involves health risks or that the accumulation of garbage on the streets attracts the vectors of the disease, everything becomes palpable.
“The real examples help young people understand that health, the environment and the climate are not distant themes, but part of their life and their families.”
The search for different profiles
Another project that also aims to train ESG leader is the Brazil climatic reality project, of the Brazil Center in the climate. In it, the lessons are made up of people with profiles other than all states and who can add to training and also in the months following these meetings.
“We highlight three points that we consider essential for a young man to become an effective climate: scientific and political knowledge to interpret the climatic scenarios and public policies; communication skills to translate accessible and mobilized messages and the ability to articulate coalitions and influence the decision -making process. One of the central points of the Brazil climatic reality project is the presentation created by the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007, the environment Gore, which has become a world reference by translating climate science accessible and impactfully.
“Al Gore describes in detail the effects of climate change in different regions and their social and economic developments. At the same time, it brings a message of optimism: we already have technologies and resources to face the crisis, but we need political will and the ability to overcome the pressure of the lobbies that slow down the solutions”, says Syrkis.
In both programs, the intention is that the actions and projects created by students continue and do not get lost after the end of the training. “The program offers the methodology of the project, monitoring of experts and encouraging external partnerships. This guarantees that ideas come out of the card and have conditions of continuity. Furthermore, students are the protagonists of solutions, which strengthen their commitment to keep the initiatives alive even after completing the training”, says Priscila.
