President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took advantage of the declaration of September 7 on Saturday to highlight national sovereignty and reaffirm that Brazil will not give in external pressure, in the middle of the friction with the President of the United States Donald Trump, after the taxation of Brazilian products.
“We are not and we will not be more of anyone. We are able to govern and take care of our land and our people, without interference by any foreign government … we defend our democracy and we will resist anyone who tries to blow it,” said the president, on a national radio and television network on Saturday, on the eve of the day of independence.
Trump has imposed a 50% rate on Brazilian products, with some exceptions, which connect the measure, in part, to which he called “witches hunt” against the former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is a defendant in an state -deployed process to cancel his defeat in the 2022 elections.
Still in the declaration, Lula said that “inadmissible” attacks have occurred in the encouragement “some Brazilian politicians” in defense of personal interests.
Although he did not mention names in the declaration on Saturday, Lula criticized the deputy federal Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who moved to the United States and made a campaign for the Trump government to impose sanctions to the Brazilian and Brazilian authorities.
“They have been elected to work for the Brazilian people, but only defend their personal interests. They are traitors of the homeland. The story will not forgive them.”
