This is what happened in the municipality of Cervo (La Coruña), where Google Service is passing the traffic to a secondary road.
According to the newspaper La Voz de Galicia, Google Maps indicates drivers an alleged “shortcut” to reach a commercial park in Cuíña. The inconvenience is that this road is expressly prohibited for vehicles with more than 5.5 tons: it was built by the owners of adjacent ownership to obtain access from a national road. However, truck drivers, following the GPS indications, use it “with total impunity”.
The consequence
The situation has reached a critical point. Residents denounce the constant passage of “more than twelve meters” trucks that transport dangerous goods, wood or heavy machines on a narrow track without sidewalks, compromising the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and residents themselves.
The impact, by the way, goes further: they complain about the acoustic damage, since the traffic is less than 1.5 meters from the houses and some close buildings “are already starting to have cracks in their structure”.
