The Governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), promised the concession of Amnistia to the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) if he had won the presidential elections of 2026. In a declaration published on Thursday 11, Caiado said he said that he went to Bolsonaro’s belief and criticized the Federal Court (Stf). It is up to the president to sanction the amnesty only if approved by the congress. On its own initiative, the CEO can decree a forgiveness. In both cases, constitutionality tends to be questioned in the Supreme Court.
“I was the first to position myself and I repeat: if I have the opportunity to reach the presidency of the Republic, I will sign the amnesty as soon as I enter office,” says Caiado’s event. “Only in this way can we reach the peace necessary to build a conciliation government, focusing on the future, dedicated to dealing with the real problems of the Brazilians and promote true progress for our people,” he adds.
Caiado also defended the amnesty “to all prisoners due to the events of January 8” and used as a justification for “national pacification”. The governor also claims that the trial should have included all 11 Stf ministers, rather than being limited to the first court class.
“Once again, I deeply regret the condemnation of the former president Jair Bolsonaro by the Supreme Federal Court (Stf). I say” once again “because this condemnation had already been soon: first, when the right to defend himself publicly; then, when even his right to come and go was limited”, says the text.
Caiado continues: “I understand that the process should have occurred in the fullness of the Supreme, where the whole Court could manifest itself and the different interpretations of the case would be adequately debated, not only in a class with five ministers.”
Thursday, the Supreme Court set the 27 years and three months in Bolsonaro and also sentenced seven other defendants. The mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), did not foresee when the amnesty will guide, nor who will be the speaker of the proposal.
