Lula says he is not afraid to face Bolsonaro again in the elections: “I won when he was in the presidency”

In an interview with BBC News Brasil, Lula reports that scenario in 2022, with Bolsonaro with government apparatus, has been more demanding – but does not guarantee that it will be a candidate for the re -election

President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva told BBC News Brazil Wednesday (9/17) not to be afraid to face the former president Jair Bolsonaro again in the presidential elections.

“I won it when he was in the presidency, so he doesn’t cause me any problem to compete for the elections with anyone,” said the president in the interview with Alvorada Palace in Brasilia.

“I won it when it was in office, using all possible means to prevent me from winning, including sending the federal motorway police to reduce roads so that voters do not vote.”

On October 30, 2022, on the day of the second round of the elections, the PRF made several blitz by blocking the transport of the voters, especially in the north -est, where Lula had a great advantage compared to Bolsonaro. The case is studied in the case of the plot of the coup and the then director of the PRF, Silvinei Vasques, has already been sentenced for bad conduct.

The president, however, did not confirmed whether to apply for the re -election in 2026.

Lula: the comparison with the situation of Bolsonaro “cannot be done”

In 2018, when Lula was arrested in the context of Lava Jato (later inverted) convictions, the PT had the defense as a motto that “the elections without lula were illegitimate”. Today, this is the same motto of the law in relation to Bolsonaro.

By asking the topic, Lula said that the confrontation “cannot be done”.

“I was arrested for an irresponsibility of a judge and a prosecutor without having any proof of me,” said the president, mentioning the defense of the United Nations Human Rights Committee in 2018 for his candidacy.

“In the case of this citizen (Bolsonaro), this citizen has shown the crime. If you have seen the process, you have seen the concrete tests of the crimes committed.”

At a previous moment of the interview with BBC News Brasil, Lula said that Bolsonaro “had the presumption of innocence and was sentenced”.

“I hope he will continue to present his defense and continue to try to demonstrate that it is not to be blamed, because so far it is the fault for trying a coup in this country.”
