This is a film that influenced the earthquake when it was released in 2009. With Grand Torino, Clint Eastwood, rather than filming and playing in a successful film: he signs one of the most emblem aspects of his acting career to symbolic farewell. He also harvested the separation viewer from 5 to 4.5 to 4.5.
In this film, Eastwood portrays Walt Kowalsk, the mediocre veteran of the Korean War, a recluse and a racist who ends up for himself to protect the Hmong family who lives next to his home. This role of breaks points to the heavy and violent characters who celebrated his career, namely the legendary Harry Kalahan, Alia’s Inspector Harry (dirty Harry, English).
End of the era: Farewell the dirty Harry
Clint Eastwood, during the release, said that Grand Torino would be his last role as an actor, deciding to make a decision, as the film depicts the final denial of the image of a single and revenge whites that had been accompanied by decades. Fortunately, he broke this promise with a new chance and a mule.
If the dirty Harry, the figure of a brutal policeman since the 1970s, has been frightened and angry with the white American symbol, Walt Kovalsky, though he is such a grip, receives a deeply moral transformation. In the final scene full of symbolism, Walt chooses to sacrifice his life to save his immigrant neighbors than to sink violence, which is so many of his ancient roles.
Dissatisfaction with violence and racism
Walt’s character, who begins racist abuse throughout the film, still reflects superstitions in some parts of American society. However, as a conspiracy, Walt begins to understand and accept his neighbors, avoiding the original behavior to finally protect what he has first denied.
As a critic Guardian At the time of release, ”Grand Torino is an absolute dissatisfaction with revenge and racism, characterized by Clint Eastwood films such as dirty Harry.“

Symbolic and sincere farewell
Along with Grand Torino, Eastwood also honors two main figures in his career: John Wayne and Don Siegel. The film recalls the latest Giants (1976), John Wayne’s latest film, where he interpreted a former hero who refuses to violate the younger generations. The film, directed by Don Siegel, directed by several Clint films, including the first dirty Harry.
Eastwood is part of this continuity where it offers a reflection of the transition time when violence is no longer necessary to determine masculinity.
Grand Torino is therefore much more than a mere drama: it is the conclusion of the entire section of his career, which is marked by violence and appropriate justice. By refusing this violence, Clint Eastwood offers a role full of regret and hope for both himself and his characters.
Grand Torino is available until September 29 on Netflix.
