In an interview with Podcast Call Her Daddy, the rapper responded to conspiracy theories that point her as a “planted” artist to replace Nicki Minaj

Cardi b This week he denied it a “Industry Plant”, a term used to describe artists allegedly launched by the industry to meet external goals, and said he always knew he would get where he is. “That’s what I was destined for,” said the rapper in an excerpt from the podcast Call Her Daddy: “I was born to become it, no matter who hired me, no matter what. I was going to be famous and was going to be a rapper.”

The answer comes after the resurgence of an old video in which YE (Kanye West) suggests that Cardi It would have been placed in the industry to “replace” other artists, comment that fueled conspiracy theories about the origin of the singer’s career. Cardi countered the narrative:

“People created all this story that I entered the industry to take the place of someone’s career,” said Cardi. “But, like, I never thought about it. I just wanted to be famous doing what I like to do.”

The artist in the case is Nicki Minajsince both have had public episodes of confrontation. The most notorious happened in September 2018, during New York Fashion Week, when the two were involved in an altercation at an event at an event Harper’s Bazaar – In videos of the episode, Cardi even throws a shoe toward the group of MINAJ and leaves the place with a head injury.

Since then, both have exchanged indirect, verses and public positions that fed the rivalry narrative between the two biggest names in female rap. This history helps to explain why “replacement” theories gain traction between parts, even if they have never been confirmed.
