Stf Dean spoke to the last session before the change in court, which will bring Fachin to the presidency
Brasilia – Minister Gilmar Mendes, dean of the Federal Supreme Court (Stf), praised the management of Minister Luis Roberto Barroso, who will be replaced in the presidency of the court next Monday by Minister Edson Fachin. In a declaration held in the last session chaired by Barroso, Gilmar said that his colleague “knew how to respond to unhappy attacks, but also with the elegance, cordiality and urbanity that characterize him and have always guided his public life”.
Gilmar stressed that the direction of Barroso “enters history as the first time that a former head of state, together with high -level military personnel, is sentenced for a matter of coup or attempted a coup d’état in Brazil”.
The minister was enthusiastic to mention the execution of Minister Alexandre de Moraes in the process of the plot of the coup (See in the video above). For Gilmar, Moraes played “unique and, without exaggeration, almost or truly heroic”.
“Brazilian democracy was unknown by this fire test. The Federal Supreme Court is always good at stress, led the trial that led to the condemnation of the defendants of the crucial nucleus of the university of the coup with ease and absolutely regularly, respecting the right trial, contradictory and wide defense,” said Dean.
The minister also underlined the progress in the protection agenda of fundamental rights, such as the protection of the environment, the defense of gender equality and the protection of minorities.
