The assassin kills at least four in the Mormon church in the United States

The ex -Naval Fuzeper, a veteran of the war in Iraq, set fire to the scene and left at least eight injured. The FBI describes an accident as a “act of direct violence”. A former naval lift opened fire in a Mormon church in the American state of Michigan Sunday (28/09) killing at least four people. He played a truck against the building and set fire to the scene, in the last episode of what the president of the United States Donald Trump called a national “violence”.

The attack took place around 10:25 local time, when hundreds of people were present at the service in the church on Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of the last day in the town of Grand Blanc on the outskirts of Flint.

The man left the pickup with two American flags raised in the bucket and started shooting, before setting fire to the scene, said police chief William Rennye. The author also brought explosive devices with him, but it was not clear if he used them, according to James Dier of the Department of Alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives (ATF).

At least eight people were injured. The shooter was killed by the police in the parking lot, eight minutes after the first emergency call.

War veteran in Iraq

The authorities identified the attacker like Thomas Jacob Sanford 40 years from the small town near Burton. Reports in the local press claim to have grown in the region and was a marine veteran, the body of the American naval marines.

The reason for the attack is not yet clear. Investigators searched Sanford’s residence, but the authorities did not reveal further details about it. According to the Detroit News newspaper, he served at the Navy from June 2004 to June 2008, working as automotive mechanic and vehicle recovery operator. He was sent to Iraq since August 2007 to March 2008 and had the sergeant patent.

The police said that Sanford broke into the church for the first time with his vehicle, opened fire with a robbery rifle and then burned the building. The FBI, which assumed the investigation, described the accident as a “act of direct violence”.

Rennye said that in addition to the two victims whose deaths were initially reported, two other bodies have been recovered among the rubble of the burnt church. The searches were still in progress on Monday morning.

The Church of Jesus Christ of the last saints -Giorni – whose leader died the night before, at the age of 101 – called the Sunday attack of a “tragic act of violence”.

“Places of worship must be sanctuaries of pacification, prayer and connection. We pray for peace and healing to all the subjects involved,” wrote the organization on his profile on the Social Network X.

Founded in 1830, the Mormon Church considers itself a Christian body, but bases its doctrines in the Book of Mormons. Based in the State of Utah, west of the United States, Mormoni churches are scattered all over the world, with millions of faithful.

“Epidemic of violence”

The United States, where firearms are easily accessible, have a long history of episodes of armed violence.

Tensions have increased in the country after a series of attacks in recent weeks, including the murder of the Ultra preserved activist Charlie Kirk in Utah and a shooting at a headquarters of the Federal Department for Immigration and Customs (Ice) in Texas.

The attack of this Sunday also occurs a month after a mass shooting in a Catholic Church and in a school in the minnesota, in which two children were killed while attending a mass and many others were seriously injured.

The political divisions deepened after the attacks, with the president Trump who launched a campaign against left -wing groups accuses of being “domestic terrorists”.

“This epidemic of violence in our country must end immediately,” wrote Trump on Sunday, in his social network, Truth Social.
