‘Killing Eve’: A spin-off on the origins of Carolyn Martens is underway

The universe created in the series will continue to live after its fourth and final season

‘Killing Eve’ will close in a fourth and final seasonbut his universe will live on in a new spin-off focused on the beginnings of the spy Carolyn Martensinterpreted by Fiona Shaw in the original series.

Both the showrunner for season 4 Laura Neal as AMC’s President of Original Programming Dan McDermott had hinted that the world of ‘Killing Eve’ was going to expand after the season finale, something that fans around the world took as a nod to a possible movie starring the two lead actresses, Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.

Without ruling out that possibility yet, for now what is certain is this spin-off series that will recount Carolyn’s origins. Being a prequel, it doesn’t seem likely that Comer and Oh will appear reprising their characters.

The producer of the original series Sid Gentle Films will also be behind this spin-off.

‘Killing Eve’ tells the story of Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), an MI6 agent who develops a strange and intimate connection with a deadly Russian assassin named Villanelle (Jodie Comer) while pursuing her. The show is based on the novel series ‘Villanelle’ by Luke Jennings. Carolyn Martens (Fiona Shaw) is in charge of the Russia Section at MI6 and over the course of the series it is slowly revealed that Carolyn has become something of a rogue agent. She has a close relationship with Konstantin (Kim Bodnia), who is Villanelle’s boss. It will be very interesting to see Carolyn’s early life explored in detail, especially in regards to how Carolyn became corrupt while working for MI6.

Although the character is played by Fiona Shaw, this one is not confirmed for the prequel and another younger actress could replace her in the role. Shaw won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her work on the series and was nominated twice for an Emmy. Shaw is also known for playing Harry Potter’s biological aunt, petunia dursleyin the film saga based on the books of JK Rowling.

The last episode of the final season of ‘Killing Eve’ airs on HBO Max on April 10.
