BRASILIA, 01 OCTO – The number of possible deaths from adulterated drinks with methanol has risen to seven throughout Brazil, after confirmation of the government of Pernambuco, Tuesday (1st), two suspicious deaths.

The cases add up to the five occurrences recorded in San Paolo, which led the Ministry of Justice to trigger the Federal Police (PF) to investigate an alleged system of adulteration connected to the first capital command (CCP).

The Department of Health of the State of Pernambuco (SES-PE) reported that three patients were treated with symptoms of intoxication caused by the ingestion of adulterated drinks. Two of them died and the third vision has lost. The victims are resident in the cities of Lajedo and João Alfredo, both located in the rural pernambuco.

The bodies of the victims remain at the Institute of Forensic Medicine (Iml), while the Agency for the surveillance of Health Pernambuco (Apevisa) has strengthened the inspection in the distributors of drinks and maintains contacts with the agencies of the Federal Government.

In San Paolo, the authorities also investigate 22 other suspicious cases of poisoning, with symptoms similar to those of the dead.

The government of San Paolo has announced that the police will inspect Wednesday (1) deposits of three dealers suspected of distributing adulterated drinks to bars and restaurants where cases have been recorded.

According to the governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), San Paolo acts in collaboration with the health and police authorities to “identify the origin of adulterated drinks and strictly punish those responsible”. .
