George Russell made an impeccable race from the pole position to win the Grand Prix of Singapore for the Mercedes Sunday, leaving the world champion Red Bull Max Verstappen and the two McLarens who fight the other podium places.
British Russell received the chess flag under the lights of the Marina Bay road circuit with 5.4 seconds in front of Verstappen, winning his second victory for the season.
“It’s an extraordinary feeling,” said Russell. “We don’t really know where this performance comes from, but they are very, very happy.
Lando Norris pressed Verstappen at the end of the race, but he had to settle for third place, in front of his teammate Oscar Pasters, with the couple who won enough points to seal the second consecutive title of manufacturers for McLaren.
“It was a difficult race,” said Norris. “Max did not make mistakes. I gave myself everything today and I approached. I am happy today. I advanced two positions. We won as a team, the title of manufacturers again.”
Piistri’s advantage for the British classification Norris in the classification of cyclists has been reduced to 22 points, while Verstappen is 63 points behind the Australian, with six of running until the end of the season.
“I think the second place was the final result today,” said Verstappen. “I think the whole race was rather difficult, more difficult than I expected for many different reasons.”

Russell made a clean start of pole with Verstappen behind him, but Norris, who began the fifth, hit the back of the Dutch Red Bull when he forced the entry of Pisters in the first corner.
Norris suffered some damage to the front of the car and Pasters expressed his discontent on the team’s radio with the maneuver of his teammate, accusing the British of “removing him in the middle”.
“It’s a race, I put it in, I made a little correction, but nothing else that was a good race,” said Norris.
The flight attendants concluded the accident and McLaren said he would analyze the case after the race, with Pasters again complaining about what he said was the injustice of the decision.
“I thought that at the moment, obviously on the first lap, the tensions were high,” said Pasters. “Obviously, we are encouraged to share our opinions on what happened, and I did it and I am sure we will discuss more.”
Verstappen was the first of the leaders to go to the box and went on the track to make sure that Norris could not exceed him when the British exchanged the tires seven laps later.
Norris applied his right as a driver of the McLaren leader to go in front of Pisters, whose discontent with the team would not have been improved by an extraordinarily slower stop than his teammate.
Verstappen was 3.5 seconds behind Russell in half the race and finished the race in struggle to keep Norris in second place, instead of looking for the third consecutive victory.
