The ceiling of the restaurant Jamiein Bela Vista, central São Paulo, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon after an explosion. The establishment has a menu signed by the chef Henrique Fogaçawho is also a partner at the place. The incident was recorded around noon, during lunch time, and the Fire Department’s initial suspicion is that a gas explosion caused the restaurant’s mezzanine to collapse.

Six people were injured in the accident. At 2pm, two victims were still under the rubble, one of them in serious condition. All rescued people were conscious. There is no official confirmation whether the injured were restaurant employees or customers.

Among the four first rescued, one victim had difficulty breathing and back pain, two people suffered bruises and the condition of the fourth was not disclosed. The injured were taken to three health units: UPA Vergueiro, UPA Vila Mariana and Pronto-Socorro São Paulo.

Firefighters worked to stabilize the structure before proceeding with the rescue of victims who remained under the rubble. The operation mobilized the Civil Defense, the Águia helicopter from the Military Police and at least five vehicles from the Fire Department.

The restaurant was already operating at the time of the explosion, but there is no information about the presence of customers there. Henrique Fogaça is known nationally for his participation in the program MasterChef and as a partner of the restaurant Old Dog. The case will be investigated to determine the causes of the accident.
