Relations between the countries shook after America added more tariffs
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed optimism that the meeting between the US and Chinese presidents, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping respectively, will take place in Seoul, South Korea, at the end of October.
In an interview with Fox Business Network, the American politician said that the Republican “is still on the right track” to meet the Chinese leader.
“We have basically eased tensions and Trump has said that the tariffs will not go into effect before November 1. I believe the meeting will still take place,” Bessent said, adding that Washington and Beijing were maintaining “contacts” to organize the bilateral meeting.
The secretary’s statement was made just days after Trump announced he will slap additional 100% tariffs on products from China starting in November.
On the occasion, the tycoon stated that China’s measure, which tightens the rules on exports of rare earths, is something “absolutely unprecedented in international trade” and a “moral shame in relations with other nations”. .
