The Rio rapper Filipe Ret made waves on social media when he called himself the “absolute 01” of national rap, stating that his trajectory, numbers and consistency put him above everyone else. Meanwhile, according to him, the other artists would be competing for nothing more than second place.

He has been building a solid fan base, impressive streaming numbers and successful tours, factors that, according to him, underpin his public self-confidence as a scene leader.

The provocative statement quickly resonated with fans, critics and other artists. Although Ret did not name specific targets, many interpreted the speech as a dig at rappers like Matuewhich have also claimed prominence.
