In a post on X, the rapper states that “others compete for second place forever”

The Rio rapper Filipe Ret made waves on social media when he called himself the “absolute 01” of national rap, stating that his trajectory, numbers and consistency put him above everyone else. Meanwhile, according to him, the other artists would be competing for nothing more than second place.

In a post on X, Ret he wrote:

With more than ten years of career, Ret has already launched important works such as Vivacious (2012), Daring (2018), Immaterial (2021), Light (2022) and the most recent NUME — Epilogue (2025). He has been building a solid fan base, impressive streaming numbers and successful tours, factors that, according to him, underpin his public self-confidence as a scene leader.

The provocative statement quickly resonated with fans, critics and other artists. Although Ret did not name specific targets, many interpreted the speech as a dig at rappers like Matuewhich have also claimed prominence.

Now we just have to wait and see if this unpretentious “nudge” turns into something more serious. Whether it will generate a musical response, an indirect verse or even a more direct provocation on stage or online. Rap thrives on creative tension, and this type of audacious positioning can stimulate healthy debates (or acidic exchanges).

But it’s important to stay within the art: that the clash is in the songs, the beats and the rhymes.
