Director James Mangold was 17 when he discovered the original version of Yuma 3:10, performed by Delmer Davis in 1957. A feature film at the time made a strong impression on him. “I was surprised by his questions about morality, courage, respect and family”He recalls. “The characters of Ben Wade and Dan Evans were more complex than ordinary archetypes, and the story allowed for both a lot of action and an amazing sense of claustrophobia – unique in Western history – in the vicinity of two opposing forces.

Making this feature film was a colossal challenge for Danny Boyle, who had to stop the audience for an hour and a half so that his protagonist could not move an inch. “We were going to make an action movie in which the protagonist is motionless!” Summarizes the director. “I felt that if we could make the film visceral and engaging, both visually and emotionally, then people could get lost in the story just as Aaron got lost in the canyons.
