Netflix has released the teaser of “The Empress”, a new series on the story of Sissi, the teenager who became Empress of Austria and adored in German-speaking countries – and Hungary – both for the modernity of her kingdom and for her status. of romantic heroine forged in a hugely successful 1950s film trilogy that catapulted actress Romy Schneider to world stardom.

Created by Katharina Eyssen (“The Girl in the Nine Wigs”), the new German series focuses on the beginnings of the overwhelming love story of young Elisabeth von Wittelsbach, Sissi (who was 16 in real life) and Franz Joseph (then 23 years). ), emperor of Austria and king of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia, and who had one of the longest reigns in Europe, from 1848 to 1916.

The plot centers on the difficulties imposed on the Emperor’s marriage, including the disapproval of the court and the Queen Mother, who preferred to see her son married to the elder sister of the young woman, and her brother, who wants the throne and also her future. . sister in law. Despite this, the story begins in an optimistic and hopeful way. This is the second recent series of Princess Diana’s precursor in the European imagination.
