Broadcast on the BBC from 2010 to 2019, Luther follows the failure of a troubled London police officer, played by Idris Elba. With charming characters, a discreet atmosphere and a realistic approach to detective intrigue, the series built a solid reputation among fans of crime fiction before exploding internationally thanks to its transmission on Netflix.
Canceled after 5 seasons, the character returned as a feature film in 2023’s Luther: Fallen Sun, courtesy of Netflix. It was enough for fans to imagine that the platform will soon host another adventure of the London police officer…
Is a comeback announced soon?
Recently, we had an interview with colleagues of the magazine Radio TimesNeil Cross, the creator of the series, joined forces with Idris Elba and the team, saying that everyone wanted to bring the character back. but when If the creator, of course, avoided the question, his hint brought consolation to all fans of the series:
“There’s a good chance that’s the most accurate hint I can give without Netflix sending a killer to silence me? Yeah, there’s a good chance.”
TV series or movie?
We know it’s hard to announce anything official without platform approval, but this little joke seems pretty clear to us! And while the date has (obviously) not been announced, we already know what form the creative team envisions this return to take:
“because he lives here now”. Recall that we left your hero in the middle of being recruited by MI5 at the end of Fallen Sun, so it’s a safe bet that this is the direction the plot will take. We hope you are as excited as we are!
Luther (series) is currently available on HBO Max and Luther: Fallen Sun on Netflix.
