Grammy-winning singer once again refutes suggestions that she “only sings about sex” during a monologue during her appearance on Saturday Night Live

Sabrina Carpenter was on the famous American program Saturday Night Live last weekend. The pop singer who won the Grammy took the opportunity to once again counter criticism for the explicit “sexualization” in his songs.

During his monologue on the attraction (via Variety), the artist gave a mocking response when talking about her work, including the new album Man’s Best Friend (2025), released in August.

Initially, she commented:

“While I’m here, I want to clear up some misconceptions people have about me. Everyone thinks of me as a horny pop star, but there’s actually a lot more to me. I’m not just horny. I’m also horny and sexually charged. And I love reading. My favorite book is the encyclopedia. It’s so big and hard (note: she used the term ‘hard’, which also means ‘tough’)…”

She continued to address the controversial cover of Man’s Best Friendin which he appears on all fours in front of a man who pulls his hair. Sabrina stated in an ironic tone:

“Some people were a little freaked out by the cover. I don’t know why. It was just me on all fours with an invisible figure pulling my hair. But what people don’t realize is that’s how they cut it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a photo from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen (Yang) helping me with my hair…. After Martin Short pushed me out of the buffet line.”

Sabrina Carpenter and the accusation of sexualization

The 26-year-old artist, who began her career on the channel Disney Channel and is currently one of the most talked about names in the American industry, she has been constantly accused of “only singing about sex”.

In June she was on the cover of Rolling Stone USA and stated the following about his detractors, including music industry executives:

“It’s always so funny to me when people complain. They say, ‘All she does is sing about it’. But these are the songs you guys popularized. Clearly you guys love sex. You guys are obsessed with it. It’s on my show.”

According to the singer, she is one of many women victims of sexist comments and misogyny — whether on the internet or in real life. Sabrina was amazed at the amount of attacks on female celebrities, not only in music, but in all areas of entertainment.

She reflects:

“I really feel like I’ve never lived in a time where women have been so criticized and scrutinized in every aspect. I’m not just talking about myself. I’m talking about all the female artists who are making art right now. We’re in such a weird time where you would think it’s about girl power and women supporting women, but in reality, the second you see a photo of someone wearing a dress on a carpet, you have to say everything mean about it within the first 30 seconds.”

Show in Brazil

Sabrina Carpenter is one of the main attractions of Lollapalooza Brasil 2026. She will perform on Friday, March 20th.

Carpenter came to Brazil for the last time relatively recently, in 2023. It was one of the festival’s attractions MITAin São Paulo and in Rio de Janeirobetween May and June. A few months later, in November, he returned to open a series of shows for Taylor Swiftin the same cities.

The moment in his career was very different. The album that turned her into a pop megastar, Short n’ Sweetcame out only the following year, 2024. This album contains hits such as “Espresso”, “Please Please Please” and “Taste”.
