Guns N’ Roses vocalist was bothered by a problem that occurred right at the beginning of his performance in Buenos Aires; group returns to Brazil in the next few days
The Argentine public got a glimpse of Axl Rose “of the old testament” last Saturday, 18. During the show Guns N’ Roses at the Huracán Stadium, in Buenos Aires, the vocalist took out frustrations due to technical problems with the new member’s drums Isaac Carpenter.
The performance on Saturday, 18th, was the second of two dates in Argentine territory. Previously, Axl and his partners had played on Friday, the 17th, without any complications. The next day, in the first song of the set, “Welcome to the Jungle”the singer suffered from the lack of feedback — that is, he couldn’t hear himself.
Videos posted online show Rose forcefully throwing his microphone on the floor as he finished the opening song, leaving the stage in a hurry and apparently irritated, just like in the old days. At another point in the set, during “Bad Obsession”he climbs onto the drum stage and kicks the bass drum.
What happened to Axl Rose
Later, Axl explained himself to the public. In footage transcribed by Igor Miranda websitethe artist declared that Carpenter was not to blame for what happened, but the drums were heard in his return headphone “like a tractor”.
“There’s a sound problem up here and no one has told me why. And it’s not Mr. Carpenter’s fault, but his drums are going over my head like a tractor. I think it’s so you can enjoy the percussion better.”
The show continued normally after adjustments to the stage sound and, as usual, lasted approximately 3 hours, with almost 30 songs performed. In addition to classics like “Sweet Child O’Mine”, “Paradise City”, “You Could Be Mine” and “November Rain”the repertoire brought B-sides such as “Double Talkin’ Jive” and “Pretty Tied Up”recent releases such as “The General” and “Hard Skool” and covers of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” (Black Sabbath), “Down on the Farm” (UK Subs) and “New Rose” (The Damnedwith vocals from the bassist Duff McKagan).
Guns N’ Roses shows in Brazil
As reported, Guns N’ Roses returns to Brazil soon. The group, now a septet, will visit five cities with their new tour “Because What You Want and What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things” (“Because what you want and what you will get are two completely different things”).
Shows are confirmed in Florianópolis (21/10, at Arena Opus), São Paulo (25/10, at Allianz Parque), Curitiba (28/10, at Pedreira Paulo Leminski), Cuiabá (31/10, at Arena Pantanal) and Brasília (02/11, at Arena BRB Mané Garrincha). The fourth city, capital of Mato Grosso, welcomes them for the first time.
For all dates, the Raimundos will be the opening attraction. Formed today by Digão (voice and guitar), Marquim (guitar), Caio Cunha (battery) and Jean Moura (bass), the group released their ninth studio album, XXX, in May.
Guns N’ Roses haven’t been to Brazil since 2022, when they played at the Rock in Rio festival and went on a long solo tour. The new visit will be the first with the drummer Isaac Carpenter (former member of Awolnation, Loaded, Loudermilk and other projects), replacing Frank Ferrer, who left after 19 years of service.
After spending 2024 off the stage, Guns N’ Roses recently returned with a tour of Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
In addition to Isaac Carpenter, Guns currently features Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Dizzy Reed (keyboards) and Melissa Reese (keyboards and synthesizers).
