Leader accused of nepotism in Santos base

Councilors call for the expulsion of Daniel Alves, from the management committee, who denies wrongdoing involving his children at the club

As if the problems on the pitch weren’t enough, Santos now faces a new political crisis behind the scenes. This Wednesday (22), a group of councilors presented two formal requests for the expulsion of Daniel Alves from the association. Alves is a member of the management committee of president Marcelo Teixeira. In this way the documents, which collect around 70 signatures, exert strong pressure on the current management. Indeed, the delivery of the requests to the Prime Minister, Fernando Akaoui, is already generating internal disagreements among Teixeira’s supporters.

The crux of the allegations is an alleged conflict of interest. First, the councilors accuse Daniel Alves of favoring his two sons in the youth categories. The report states that “without their father’s influence, they technically would not have been able to stay at the club.” Furthermore, one of the sons apparently trained with the professional team this year without authorization. Finally, the documents also read that the manager had arbitrarily vetoed the hiring of another athlete from the base, coming from Vasco, who had already been approved.

The Santos manager denies the accusations

Daniel Alves was contacted by GE Portal Report and vehemently denied all allegations. In an official statement, the leader said he had documentary evidence to overturn the accusations. According to him, the technical reports show that his children followed normal evaluation protocols. Regarding the accusation of lying to the council, he states that his son already had a signed contract (on 08/27) before the meeting (on 09/02). Therefore, he regretted the attempt to “rebel the environment” in a difficult time.

Despite the accusations, President Marcelo Teixeira takes a cautious stance. Therefore, before taking action, he will have to wait for the evaluation of the club’s Commission of Inquiry and Inquiry (CIS). Now the requests go to the CIS, which will investigate the facts and listen to the defense. Subsequently, the body will express an opinion and the Deliberative Council will then decide whether or not to accept the request for expulsion of the manager, who continues to frequent the club normally.
