The 39-year-old goalkeeper will be rested and will make way for Jonas Urbig, who will have the chance to demonstrate his service and establish himself as a possible successor to the Bavarian goalkeeper
Bayern Munich will have to deal with some games without Manuel Neuer. According to the German newspaper ‘Bild’, the 39-year-old goalkeeper will not take the field in the next two matches. He has been a starter in almost every match of the season so far, making one exception only in his debut in the German Cup, when Jonas Urbig saved the goal in the 3-2 win over Wehen Wiesbaden.
Now Urbig, 22 years old, should set a new record as a starter. The youngster will face Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German championship and, immediately after, Cologne, his former team, in the second phase of the German Cup.
Neuer, disqualified in the German Cup due to the sending off in the last edition against Bayer Leverkusen, will also be rested in the Bundesliga. After the 4-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League, the veteran commented on the situation.
“I need to take it easy. I can already feel my body reacting. Let’s see how I feel tomorrow,” said the goalkeeper.
Also according to ‘Bild’, Bayern intends to give Urbig more minutes this season. The idea is to observe his performance and evaluate whether he can take Neuer’s place in the future.
