Despite conducting free training 2 of Mexican GP20th stage of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Max Verstappen expressed concern about the performance of the Red Bull. The four-time world champion complained about the lack of grip, underlining that this problem could compromise the rest of the weekend Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.
Despite the advantage, the pilot made it clear to the F1TV that the team still faces challenges: “The balance wasn’t even bad. The problem was simply the lack of grip, and that’s what worries me the most. As soon as we get into a sequence of longer laps, the tires start to overheat.”
Verstappen did not participate in FP1, giving space to Arvid Lindblad completed the mandatory session for novice drivers. In FP2, the four-time champion recorded 1min17s392 and finished ahead of him Charles Leclercfrom the Ferrariwhich was 0s153 behind e Kimi Antonellifrom the Mercedes.

Verstappen also highlighted specific difficulties in race simulations: “We were nowhere. It will be difficult to resolve, but we’ll see. In the qualifying simulation we did a good lap with the soft tyres”.
“The rest, everything else, went quite badly. With the middleweights, in the qualifying simulation, it didn’t go well, and the big problem is the race simulations, where we seem to be suffering a lot,” the driver added.
According to the Dutchman, Red Bull will have to adapt its strategies and tire management to cope with the pace required by the Mexican track, especially on long laps, when grip becomes more critical.
The Mexican GP program continues this Saturday, the 25th, with free practice 3 at 2.30pm (Brasilia time) and qualifying at 6.00pm. The main race will take place on Sunday 26th at 5pm.
