F1: McLaren and Mercedes investigated over budget cap

Sky Sport Italia underlines that the teams have not yet received the certificate of conformity from the FIA and may have exceeded the spending limit.

On the eve of the Mexican GP, Sky Sport Italia reported that McLaren and Mercedes are the teams under investigation for a possible violation of the budget ceiling for the 2024 season. The adjustment document, which certifies compliance with the spending limit, has not yet been issued for both. The FIA delayed the official announcement, which increased speculation in the paddock.

According to sources, Aston Martin has only committed a procedural error and has already signed an agreement with the body, but another case, not yet confirmed, could be more serious and resemble that of Red Bull in 2022, when the team received a fine and a sporting punishment.

The FIA is expected to release the full report in the coming weeks. Until then, the atmosphere behind the scenes remains one of uncertainty and tension.
