“Why these guys?” wrote the musician in a comment on Major League Baseball’s Instagram

You Jonas Brothersambassadors of Stand Up to Cancermade a surprise presentation during the World Series 2025, which caused some baseball fans to take to social media to criticize his appearance.

Last Saturday, 25th, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers competed in the second game of World Series at the Rogers Center in Toronto. After the fifth inning, the game was stopped for a tribute to the Stand up to Cancer. A tradition of Major League Baseball Since 2009, the tribute has been attended by people holding signs in honor of people affected by cancer. At yesterday’s game, fans and baseball players participated in the moment.

Then, the band was introduced by surprise by an announcer, who said that the Jonas Brothers would play “I Can’t Lose“, which was “dedicated to everyone fighting cancer.” Starting the presentation with Joe Jonas holding a sign for their father, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2017, the band performed at the stadium, in an area overlooking the field.

During the performance, they were surrounded by fans who sang along, but once they were finished, it appeared that some baseball fans were less enthusiastic about the surprise performance. Some, dissatisfied, turned to the internet. One person posted “do this before the game… don’t interrupt the World Series” and another wrote “This is the World Seriesnot the game All-Star” in the comments of the video MLB on YouTube with the presentation.

On Instagram, their performance was also criticized. “Terrible idea to do a halftime show AFTER a minute of silence in honor of those affected by cancer, in the middle of WORLD SERIES. What a shame,” one person wrote, while another called it “the worst part of the entire broadcast.” Another was more diplomatic, writing, “They may perform well, but please don’t ever do that in the middle of a game again. Do this to start the game. It changes the whole atmosphere.”

Joe Jonas seemed to take it all in stride, humorously posting, “why these guys?” in the post MLB on Instagram. And, despite the negative reaction of some, thousands of others “liked” his response. Jonas and hundreds of others commented in support of him and the band. Furthermore, there was at least one pretty obvious reason for them to be there with the sign he held up at the beginning of the performance, since their father, Kevin Jonasis a cancer survivor. Perhaps a better battle would be a unified one against cancer than a surprise band repercussion.
