“She’s a master at getting what she wants,” The White Lotus creator said of the Euphoria actress
Sydney Sweeney and Mike White created magic together in the first season of The White Lotus — so why not join forces in The Amazing Race? Recently, Sweeney revealed that he would love to participate in the reality show alongside White as a team partner, telling the Variety: “Honestly, Mike and I would be an unbeatable duo.”
In the same interview, White agreed. “I would definitely win with her,” he said. “She’s a master at getting what she wants. And I mean that in the best possible sense.”
White has competed twice on The Amazing Race. He missed seasons 14 and 18 of the long-running reality show alongside his father, Mel White, and also participated in Survivor: David vs. Goliath.
“Part of my work and my way of life is studying people and analyzing motivations and character. I still think that, even in the most forced reality TV show, people are human and more interesting than in a lot of scripted dramas,” White told The New Yorker in 2021, about his love for appearing on genre TV shows. “And for me, as a drama writer, I aspire to do what reality television already does — create surprising, complex characters who do strange things and keep your attention.”
Sweeney starred in the first season of The White Lotus as Olivia Mossbacherdaughter of Nicole (Connie Britton) and Mark (Steve Zahn). In another excerpt from the interview with VarietyWhite acknowledged that he would love for Sweeney to reprise the role in a future season of the series — but he’s not very optimistic about it. “I don’t know if we could afford it now,” he said. “For now, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.”
White has also considered the idea of an “all-star” edition of The White Lotuswhich would bring together several fan-favorite characters. “It would be easy to turn the series completely into an anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little connections between the seasons,” he stated in 2023. “If the show continues for a few more seasons, it would be fun to have a season with the best characters.”
The third season of The White Lotusset in Thailand, was shown on HBO earlier this year. In April, White said he wanted the next installment of the series to “move away from the ‘waves crashing on the rocks’ language a bit.” It has since been reported that production is set to move to France, although the exact location has yet to be officially announced.
