Federal deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) declared on Thursday 30th that the mega-operation in the Penha and Alemão complexes, in Rio de Janeiro, which caused the death of more than 120 people, is “criminal”. According to him, after listening to the residents’ reports, it became clear that the aim of the action was to kill.

“In the Alemão compound, in Cufa, where we heard very touching and very tangential statements about widespread death. An operation in which everything indicated that the aim was to kill and not arrest and not have a long-term perspective,” Alencar said.
Alencar and other politicians showed up at the door of the Instituto Médico-Legal (IML) Afrânio Peixoto in central Rio and said they were demanding the full list of victims. According to Alencar, one resident reported that, in the “latest massacre,” the suspects who died this week were as young as 10 years old.
“Next time will we have to see the pain and tragedy of those who lived 10 years before? And the promises, a new social occupation, public policies without them being realized? Much emphasis has been placed on the abandonment of the Penha and Alemão complex and public safety, which is everyone’s right, is practiced there in this way: violent, truculent, criminal,” he lamented.

The MP also said he regrets the death of the police officers, but stressed that we know the names of the officers and that full honors will be done, unlike the suspects. “It’s a total cloud. They are thrown into ‘nobody’ (sic.). It seems like they are not people. And this is not acceptable. Even in wars, the right to bury their dead is guaranteed, the right to have their bodies for their families,” he stressed.
Alencar defended independent expertise and criticized the operation’s lack of planning. “For those who carry out a war operation like this, there had to be a minimum of planning to think about the subsequent reactions of the criminal organizations and contain them so that the city does not end up in chaos as it happened. Even the procedures, since they had a very clear intention to kill, which the Forensic Medical Institute, its units, had the capacity, but it seems that it is a second death, is defaming the victims”, underlined the deputy.
