With a late goal, Leões sealed the 2-0 win at Alvalade and reached the same 25 points as Dragões, still playing in this tenth round
Current two-time national champions, Sporting defeated Alverca 2-0 this Friday (31), in the opening of the 10th round of the Portuguese championship. The goals came in the second half. Greek striker Ioannidis came off the bench and took around ten minutes to open the scoring in the 23rd minute. Shortly afterwards, in the 29th minute, Pedro Gonçalves sealed the triumph at the José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon.
With the second consecutive victory in the Portuguese championship, the team led by coach Rui Borges reaches 25 points and equals Porto’s lead. The Dragons, however, are still in play in this round: they will face Braga on Sunday.
Alverca, who had slowed down the home team’s momentum in the first phase, were unable to avoid a second consecutive setback in the competition. The Ribatejo team, which has Francisco Chissumba as coach, has six defeats in total and is in 12th place in the table, with ten in total.
