Tim Allen reveals important details about Toy Story 5

Announced in Disney’s 2023 first-quarter earnings call, “Toy Story 5” has a scheduled release date of June 2026. Despite this, up until then, the crux of the plot had not yet been revealed. During the 2025 Annecy Animation Festival in June, Pixar creative director Pete Docter revealed that the conflict takes place on an electronic tablet called the LilyPad, which gains space in little girl Bonnie’s life.

“Bonnie is now eight years old and is more concerned about connecting socially and making friends, so her parents agreed to buy her this LilyPad. It’s a new technological tablet that allows Bonnie to talk to her friends, play games and do other things. In the midst of this conflict, the toys seek the help of an old friend, Woody. He “gets called back to help, but they haven’t seen each other in a while, and he and Buzz don’t always get along. As Mr. Potato Head says in the movie, ‘It’s nice to see them fighting again,'” Docter added.

It has not been revealed how the character returns.

Opening scene

Also during the 2025 Annecy Film Festival, the opening scene of “Toy Story 5” was screened, in which several Buzz Lightyear toys are camping on a beach and remain stranded on an island. According to Allen, what happened was actually a plane crash and now all of Buzz’s toys have to find their way back.

“I don’t know how much I can tell you. The funniest thing to me is that there’s a plane crash like in that Tom Hanks movie, you know? The one where he gets stranded on an island. We’re on a FedEx plane when a hundred Buzz Lightyear dolls land and they’re all lost. They’re hysterical. They’re trying to find their way back, and there’s a hundred of them. I hope they made it. Suddenly, there’s two in the back who keep asking, ‘Why gives all the orders?’ Because there are hundreds of them saying, ‘Let’s go this way.’ Space Patrollers, right?’, and there’s one in front,” the actor commented.
